Entertainment Fall 2013 (Tv Series / Anime / Music)

Post by KEN »

I'd be interested to know what others are watching for entertainment the 2nd half of this year.
I've been watching variety of stuff like mystery, action, horror and I'll list here what is really worth the time.

The last movie I watched was The Conjuring as soon as it was released. It was worth it as a horror movie in the cinema. I don't watch that many movies so that's all I saw lately.

Among Tv Show I saw Game of Thrones ( It's a Masterpiece) and Breaking Bad.
It is a good time to watch Breaking Bad if someone has not seen it yet. It's about METH and drugs and money and it's last episode aired just a few days back at the end of September 2013(Total of 5 Season, episode number- 16 / season on average).
Game of Thrones is just awesome in itself filled with lots of plotting and backstabbing, Dragons, Magic, Walkers, War. 3 Seasons with 10 episodes per season.
Action and Mystery filled - 'Attack on Titan', 25 episodes in total, it's plot is: Humanoid creatures (Titans) eats humans, they are HUGE, 7 Meter to 50 Meters tall. To save themselves Humans creates huge 3 walls and stay inside them. For 100 years they stay safe like that but after than the outer wall gets breached and they are pushed back to the 2nd and again pushed back further to the 3rd and last wall. It is filled with action, fighting , suspense. It is said to be as good as 'Death Note', released in 2006(I think), Death Note's little plot if someone's interested: A very intelligent highschool student finds a notebook on the ground, any human whose name is written in the notebook, dies. It turns out the notebook belongs to a god of death who dropped it in the human world and now that student starts using it to kill criminals around the world to make world better place.. 37 episode in total.

Another good tv series I forgot to mention is 'Prison Break'. It's damn old but I just saw it like 2 months back. It's about a man name Michael Scofield who goes to jail on purpose of breaking out of it along with his brother who is put in there. His brother falsely accused and is put in prison by the government and there is a huge government conspiracy behind it all. 4 Seasons in total with about 20 episodes in each season.

I finished watching SnK / Shingeki no Kyojin / Attack on Titan, it was awesome!
Watching Shippuden too as its going on.
Never heard of Kill la Kill or blood lad but I'll take a look maybe, the plot of blood lad seems interesting. Currently watching "Fighting Spirit" / "Hajime no Ippo". It is based on Boxing and is awesome as well.

Movies - Same, none worth mentioning.

Series - Sherlock, since a new season will be coming up soon.
I'll be watching it after I finish fighting spirit.

well anima IS waste of time, its just ...boring and childish. i mean yeah, we are all still just a child inside, this is why most rich old people still drive expensive sports cars, because they still like toys :) .. but anima is just different, useless.

if you want to watch something "childish" watch "Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy", i like it because of the language they use in there, its just hilarious lol.
Tom & Jerry ain't bad either, its classic and just funny to watch, but rest .. nah. maybe "Courage the cowardly dog" is worth watching, but those are cartoons really, not anima.

i rather watch wwe instead of anima, lot more fun.
i don't understand anima, just like i don't understand what people see in Simpsons, i always found simpsons really boring and senseless, yet lot of ppl watch it and like it.
maybe it has something to do with me being a scientists .. you dont see scientists watching anima .. at least i never seen any.

I strongly disagree. Just because something is animated, it does not have to be nonsense or a waste of time. Anime in fact is one of the best way to describe every day problems just as complicated problems related to society.

Just some i found really interesting:
Zetsubo Sensei (Human flaws and social outcasting)
Death Note (Usage of power, and a sense of justice)
and many more, but i doubt ull look into it anyhow.

well anima just feels wrong for me, it feels like playing with some kiddie toys lol.
im just not into this stuff, that's all. as i said, i've never seen a scientist watching anima.

what i like is cruel jokes, horror, sci-fi, drama, apocalypse, survival and other that sort of stuff, but REAL stuff, not some cartoons, they just feel wrong.
i guess i'm a critic, because it always annoys me when they make dumb mistakes in movies that would never happen in real life, just saw one dumb thing in "Stolen" movie, where thermal vision had reflection on glass LOL ..cmon thermal does not show reflections..DUH. so obvously it was recorded with normal camera and effect was just put onto it with video editor.

i guess this is why i find anima lame, because whole anima is like that, they may have a story that makes sense, but watching it .. is just wrong.

I agree with Legu. I've known other people too who dont like Anime, and the reason is only because they saw some bad one's and think they are all the same.
It's stupid coz just like all movies are not the same and all tv series are not the same, every anime is totally different from the other.

I mentioned Death Note too, it is unique and awesome(37 episodes in total). It's been a while since I started watching Anime but never seen anything like it. Kaiji get very close to it but still not similar at all. Warner Bros. announced that they will make a Death Note movie in 2014 with a little changes to the original story.

Legu check out 'Kaiji'. It have gambling theme with all those evil things about society and money. It have those smart elements from death note, like using the brain to outwit the others.
cruel jokes, horror, sci-fi, drama, apocalypse, survival
Dont know if you'll check but if others want similar themed anime:

Not aware of any with cruel jokes.

Horror / mystery: My favourite among horror anime is "Another". The ending wasn't good but the theme was fantastic.
Here's a minute long intro:
It is named "Another" because other than the normal students of the class, among them there is "another student" in the class who is actually dead / a ghost.

Sci-fic: There is Steins; Gate. Based on time travel and "John Titor", google him, he was some troll who appeared on some forums around the year 2000 on the internet who claimed to be a time traveller from 2036. He predicted the wars which will happen and a lot more stuff. Anime is great, 25 episodes in total.

Drama: Emotional things and stuff? There's "Anohana", "Clannad", "Elfen Lied".

Apocalype: Highschool of the Dead.

On the side note here is all that I have, just wanted to post:

no no .. you people don't get it, i never even watched any anima, i don't like the LOOKS of it. as i said, watching anima feels like playing with toy cars or dolls ...it's just lame.
or like watching matrix in black & white. it aint about the story.

very good comparison is "borderlands" game, where they have added that idiotic cartoonish look to it .. i just cant stand it. im sure borderlands gameplay is ok, but i can't stand the cartoonish look, it feels lame and stupid.

I watched World War Z .. i expected a lot more to be honest. 1h 50m movie (without ending credits), but there weren't many zombie encounters, however still quite unique zombie movie, i liked those huge masses of zombies that haven't been in any other movie so far.

Well that's your view then :)
Like you don't like games set in old age, but that doesn't mean those games are lame or bad. Anime is animated yes but definitely not childish, a 10 - 15 year old wont understand most things in some anime.
Me, I don't care for which year a game is set in or if it involves shooting with guns or bows & arrows or if I'm watching something animated or real till it entertains me well.

I saw world war z in cinema, the ending wasn't much good but I liked the zombies in it, just like you said they were unique.

Re: Entertainment Fall 2013 (Tv Series / Anime / Music)

most movies are boring nowdays, because of the overgrowing fact that people have no imagination anymore, they copy and copy, like all those remakes, "the amazing spiderman" (remake of 1st spiderman) .. now robocop (remake of 1st robocop) and there are so many others.

if i would make a zombie movie, i would first think about it a little bit. for example ... if such virus gets out and wakes up dead so they become zombies, WHY don't they eat eachother?
that's why "the walking dead" is quite good, becaue there they kind a covered it, they went into zombies by throwing zombies guts all over themselves so zombies didn't "see" them, that's something i would like to see in movies. bit of common sense, not just some idiotic running around without any bit of sense.
world war z had some of that too, but still story was kind a lame.

Independence Day is really good movie, old (90s i think), but very good, so for those who haven't seen it, you should watch it. another bit newer movie is "The Day The Earth Stood Still" (not the old 70s movie, but one from 2000 or something).
maybe one day i'll go thru my 1tb movies HDD and list some good movies in another new topic. I only keep the movies i like, so it should be good list.

Lots of replies hehe...

1.) I will definitely check out kaiji, thx for that ken.
I watched steins gate, but im waitin for the movie to be released on blu ray.
Btw: death note alike movies: Monster, Spiral, Code geass from what i have seen. Mybe ergo proxy.

2.) graphics of anime

No na ne. It matters, it is not a movie. But for me, it is more of an advantage, It feels like anime can create a different kind of satisfaction when watching it. The story and the whole environment are just unique in sense of satisfaction. Though i also must say, there are some very high ranked anime like cowboy bepop that i just could not watch. Graphics, music sucked for me too much, and story seemed to be meaningless too. Lot of my friends rank it very very high too. So its a taste thing i guess.
Drama: Emotional things and stuff? There's "Anohana", "Clannad", "Elfen Lied".

Apocalype: Highschool of the Dead.
Seen all, apart from anohana, might watch it.
anime is "Another"
Added to list.
10 - 15 year old wont understand most things in some anime.
Im doing my Bsc in engineering, and I still did not trully understand everything about evangelion. Complexity is not static. Just cause its anime it can be very complex and fascinating.
most movies are boring nowdays
True. In every perspective. Maybe that is why i watch so much anime lately. (1-2 eps a day)

Kaiji is a must watch for those who like Death Note.
Waiting for Steins Gate blu ray too.
I've seen Monster, Code Geass and Ergo Proxy.
Monster is probably the most realistic anime I've ever seen, the end was not what I expected but most of the things in it are realistic and how that guy bends the brains of people is awesome too.
Code Geass have my one of the most favourite ending of all times including all anime / Tv series / movie. If I have to compare, I can compare it a little above The Dark Knight Rises movie ending.
Though i also must say, there are some very high ranked anime like cowboy bepop that i just could not watch. Graphics, music sucked for me too much, and story seemed to be meaningless too. Lot of my friends rank it very very high too. So its a taste thing i guess.
Yeah its rated too damn high everywhere. I deleted it after watching 5 episodes coz of same reasons, I didn't understand what was happening and why. Just like you said, meaningless and the music sucked. I don't mind animations if everything else is great, they do matter though (Another and Guilty Crown have badass animations but Kaiji have very very old animations still its among my top 5)

Seen all, apart from anohana, might watch it.
Watch only if you liked clanned after story (Dont mind the TEARS)

Johann definitely made Monster what it is. His personality was just so unique, and his whole idea of independence, humanity and social flaws definitely gave me some ideas to look different at first sight trivial matters.
Code Geass
Indeed, the ending made my eyes a bit teary. No movie/anime did. Ok maybe the movie "the fountain".
Watch only if you liked clanned after story (Dont mind the TEARS)
Clannand > Clannad after story for me, i think they tried a bit too hard with the after story. But still it was a great show and i did enjoy it.
Same / While eating Breakfast, lunch or dinner.
There is just nothing better than having a good anime with some action (Naruto S. or perhaps some deadman wonderland.

Do you have a folder or keep them in discs or stream online? Mind taking a pic / screenshot of the collection? :-P
Legu wrote:the ending made my eyes a bit teary. No movie/anime did. Ok maybe the movie "the fountain".
Anohana's ending will add to those then coz the ending is sad.
It's short too, about 11-13 episodes only.

Year is about to end and there won't be SnK season 2 next year, they are making some live action movie or something and have not started 2nd season production yet. Manga will have about 30 more volumes so a total of around 10-35 volumes.

Just finished: Fighting Spirit / Hajime no Ippo (Greatest sports / Action / Shounen / Comedy anime ever), it's based on boxing.

On-Going one's I'm watching / reading: Naruto [Thursday], Fairy Tail [Friday], Kuroko's Basketball & Hajime no Ippo season 3 [Saturday], One Piece [Sunday].

Next up in line is Sherlock Tv Series. I'll post what I think about it after watching it and probably might make a review video about it's comparison to novels ( I have all Sherlock novels and stories in existence! :D ) since their titles are almost the same.

with useless anima? nah .. see? this is where you guys waste your time, while i make videos and get payed for it :)
anima just sucks your time, you could be doing something useful while watching that nonsense.

Here's a list of the movies that my friend has .. and its a lot (about 12tb). i'll rip the list of mine later when i connect my movie hdd to pc.
i got lot too, but my movies are small size, i can't bother downloading 20-40gb movies, its senseless, cuz my tv is only 1920x1080 and there's not much difference between 2-3gb and 20-40gb movies, you would need a proper HD tv and those are extremely rare nowdays and cost like 5 times more than any normal tv.

Oblivion was quite cool movie btw, i recommend it.

Nah, you dont like anime for your own reason, there's nothing wrong with it nor is it nonsense. You havent seen any so you dont really know much about it. And you'll find tons of YT partners with anime channels who review them and have 20,000+ subs atleast so their videos are earning more so definitely it's not useless either. What I really consider useless & nonsense is WWE. Its same crap over and over and over.

Saw first episode Sherlock series. Theme is similar to novel, titles are similar too but it's very very different.

IMDb link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1475582/ (9.2 /10)
Novel - A Study in Scarlet (by Arthur Conan Doyle)
Episode - A Study in Pink ( BBC )

Basically what they did is modernize the atmosphere and made the setting in 2000's instead of the original when it was written in (1800's).
The first episode had tons of quotes directly from the novel itself including many many other things but still it's totally different. Good way to explain this is, in novel the dying message by victims - "Rache" reffered to "Revenge (in German)" but in the series they made it refer to a girl named "Rachel" and "Rache" was just message left incomplete by the victim.

The series is amazing, 90 minutes per episode (6 episodes in total of 2 seasons), so its almost like a movie. Detective / Mystery fans must watch it.

Edit: New paranormal activity movie was announced yesterday:
It's really dragging and doing same crap again and again, I didn't see the last one but this trailer looks just fine. Might be good to watch once maybe.

i repeat, i don't like anima because of the looks of it. i also repeat again, story maybe good, but its the LOOKS of it that is just stupid.
cartoons are ok, well they're anima too in a way, because nowdays all cartoons are done using a PC anyway.
anima is just between movie and cartoon and that's what makes it dumb. just like those animated movies, that are like 1h30m or more, but no real actors, instead its animated, its just LAME to watch. it feels wrong, i explained it.
and they ARE childish..bling bling blang blang, its good thing to compare to those comic batman movies, where after every hit you saw a big "BANG" or "SMASH" on screen and stupid clown sound, that's how anima feels lol.

Only good "anima" is those movies that are made 100% with computers, i think one of them was final fantasy, made about ..6-7 years ago or something. it looked almost like real, in certain places it was hard to make difference if its real movie or not. those are ok, it's just how animas look like, childish.. and waste of time too.

WWE ? lol .. well this is where you're very wrong, they are the biggest entertainment in whole world, a billion dollar business leaving anima waaaay into dust. they hold 99% of records in entertainment, including twitter, facebook ..etc followers.
and you used to watch it yourself like crazy.
and its not same shit all over, there was a time when they copied history 2-3 times, but that's about it. .. but all that only proves what i said, humans in general are losing imagination, they could not make up anything new, so they repeated the history.

also those paranormal activity movies are kind a lame, well not paranormal movies, i mean the ones where they make it in the "documentary" style, where whole movie is recorded with somebody's handheld camera. it's one of the worst style movies ever.
they may have good story, but that handheld camera just RUINS it, again you can compare it to watching Matrix movie in black and white without sound (with the old movie style text on screen to show the words and i dont meant subtitles, its different).
See Matrix is good movie, but ruin it by making it black and white without sound ... i don't think anyone would want to see it lol.

But in reality this is anime:

is this considered as anima/anime? > http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0405296/?ref_=nv_sr_1
cuz if it is, its same, even tho it's a "movie" with story and all, it still feels lame for me to watch.

Yeah WWE is great, sometimes they overreact with some stuff, BUT what you really see in WWE is how STUPID people are, i mean seriously ..
Check out CM Punk for example. Before he beat Cena for WWE Title, people liked him a lot, everyone cheered for him and stuff, but then he "turned" and became that "nasty" shortcut taker, he was champion over 400 days and everyone started to hate him because of the ways he won (helped by others all the time) .. and now everyone likes him again because he is acting differently again.
Well yea, he is actor, but WWE is different from movies, you only have 1 shot at this, meaning that you have to have charisma to be able to pull all this off, but WWE management is still behind all this and they tell WWE superstars how to act, if they should play a good guy or bad guy, either take shortcuts and use every dirty move to win like a bad guy or fight and always take a challenge and never back out of a challenge ..etc.
My whole point, is that people always fall for it, it's so easy to fool millions and millions. people are literally just RETARDED.
I've always had my favorite wrestlers, no matter how they act.

at end of this, i wanted to mention Bourne movies, those are one of my favorites.
The Bourne Identity
The Bourne Supremacy
The Bourne Ultimatum
The Bourne Legacy

I keep watching these movies over and over again and they always seem interesting, even tho i know what's going to happen. Bourne Legacy is bit weird/odd because it isn't about Bourne, but it's about another agent.
If you havent seen these movies, you should surely watch.

A Scanner Darkly is a 2006 American animated science fiction thriller film ..
It's not Anime.
It is called Anime because of language. It is pronounced as "animēshon" in Japan and few other places. Its only a matter of difference in language. It is written as Anime but while saying it, it's similar to the sound of Animation - just say the word like usually animation is said but dont say "tion" part.

I used to watch WWE until I realized its same thing over and over. I think I stopped watching after that Cena vs CM Punk match where he returned. That match where ring broke during that time and commantator going "omg wtf this has never happened before".. Even I've seen it atleast 2-3 times while I have not seen much WWE. I used to like it when they had HBK, HHH and some other wrestlers who put up a very nice fight. I can watch HBK vs Undertaker wrestlemania match again and again but now I dont like the newer matches at all, I just dont find them as good as it used to be. WWE does earn more than Anime but earning more doesnt tell if it's more entertaining or no. I mean half the people won't even know what Anime is, some will just call it cartoon.

The types of animation final fantasy have are also in Resident Evil damnation and Degeneration. Both are worth watching, main character is Leon in both.

That movie you mentioned, A Scanner Darkly, is not anime. It looks lame to me as well. I don't think I've ever seen any movie or anything with such animation.
Animations in Anime are really very different in each of them. Even those made by the same studio can have very different animations.
Watch this trailer in HD:
Might have some spoilers in the later half.

Youtube takes away quality anyhow, I download in BR or 720p atleast.
Attack on Titan in HD is a breeze. Lovely animations and effects.

It's just that whole not looking real thing is wrong to me.

in WWE, ring have broken only twice, first time was Brock Lesnar vs Big Show and second time was Mark Henry vs Big Show, both times Big Show was suplexed off the top rope and ring broke. well OBVIOUSLY it was staged and ring was suppose to break, however im not so sure for first time.
if you look it on youtube you will notice that they were quite surprised themselves, specially the referee, but second time it didn't look so real anymore, you could tell it was staged and also commentators saying "its first time, omg i've never seen this before" was faked.

But yeah, back in the days WWE was better or well it used to be WWF (world wrestling federation). I guess it's because nowdays people are dumber and so fragile, they sue you over everything ... its because of audience that they had to change things.
Back in the days there wasn't much security around either, superstars interacted with audience a lot more and i mean a lot more.
for example some guy was holding a sign "use my sign" and one superstar took that sign and hit another with it lol, that was clearly not staged. and also those times where they got a firetruck or beer truck out there and had a "party" so lot of audience who were close to ring got sprayed with that stuff too .. but nowdays people would see oppertunity and sue the WWE for ruining their clothes LOL ..or getting beer on their children or whatever.

i didn't mean wwe earning more, i meant they are global entertainers and they are holding most of the records. Like i said, followers on twitter, facebook ..etc, they get most views on pay-per-view, arenas are always full and at wrestlemania they always seem to be breaking the most people in arena record for that specific arena. Whenever there was football or something played, arena never got that many people (i think that arena thing is staged, cuz obviously during football you can't even get that many people out there, cuz they need like 20 times more room for the football area).

over and over again i find anima just stupid. bling blank dung and nothing more.
but if its popular, why don't you make it ? it's not that difficult. well it doesn't have to be anima, it could be similar.
I might even take a look into it, make some sort of animated series, could be fun making it. just need to get some program to create animated characters and make them move the way you want.
There are movies from gmod (garry's mod), but its a game movie, that's different.

Haven't seen any which is similar to that. There are comics of batman, superman and punisher with those but dont remember seeing it in any anime.

I've made Anime, not original character but a sequel to one which ended.
It is not that simple. Anime needs much more details and takes alot of time than animating cartoons. Cartoon animation I did once, $400, about 3 minutes long and had to do it in a week.
Anime is much more difficult than that if you want it to be good. Making an original animated series is not a bad idea, there is 'smyton' channel with a team of about 5-10 members who made some anime, not original but a fan version of the existing one's and now they are doing their own series.
If I make some anime alone it will take 6-8 hours to make a few seconds of it.
just need to get some program to create animated characters and make them move the way you want.
I use photoshop for anime.
The bone tool in some programs is used to make characters move the way you want them but is only good for 2d cartoons, not anime.
Well if anyone else wants to make anime for fun or entertainment of others then you need to look up for:
Paint Tool Sai
Photoshop
Lineart Tutorials
Digital Artwork Coloring Tutorials

Edit:
Awesome .gif which explains how its all done.
1. Key frames.
2. In-between frames.
3. Coloring and shadowing.
