Re: Cracking with JTR
password encrypted dir ? what do you mean.
well ive never cracked any URL before .. actually i dont see point in that either. its not really encryption ..or is it ? its just a long url so it cannot be guessed. if you still mean that.
i also have never used john before.
i have only used cain and passpro for hashes and for remote cracking i have used hydra.

im talking about password protected directories in URLs. cracking them is possible, with John The Ripper, no i dont think so but you can with brutus. i tried it but its giving me problems unfortunately.

ok i have tried the brutus, but that tool is so old. Brutus ..i have tried it, but it gives problems indeed.
Hydra is better i think. The linux version is GUI, but well .. it only runs on linux. its also available on the backtrack2 (so u dont need to install anything)
Hydra for win is exactly same, but it works only thru cmd line. It can crack http, https, ftp ..etc, but not sure about the URLs.
i didnt even knew that JTR is a remote cracker...tought its only for hashes.

Re: Cracking with JTR
you can give it a shot.
but wht i think about JTR ... i think its no use. its old. Cain and passpro r being updated in real time, but JTR is left behind. last update was 2002 or something if i member correctly.
