Internal hard disk slow.Freezes & makes clicking sound

Post by KEN »

i bought a new hard disk a 1TB..
its internal and everything in it is slow..copy paste moving everything..games installed on that drive runs alot slower but runs smooth when installed on the other drive.
copying 7gb to it takes over 50 minute but copying same 7gb data to other one takes 10 minutes..why?
both hard disks are internal and same brand/company and same speed. It was working nicely till yesterday..this problem started last night.

Edit: this one is solved..it went to PIO transfer mode..now it's solved..
But now i have other shitty problem..
sometimes in middle of work it lags..it stops what it's doing..like i am extracting a rar file so it freezes at 5% and after 2 minutes it continues and then again it freezes and pc lags..Only in that 1TB hard drive not in the other one..
I'm hearing very very low clicking sound too sometimes..when it freezes,i hear clicking sound like once every 10 seconds. :|

i suggest you take it back to warranty. sounds like bad sectors to me.
do a disk check, auslogic disk defrag can do it or use windows default.
also try running HDD Regenerator
if they find no errors, then i don't know what it might be.

Already done all of the things/softwares you mentioned. No errors.
0%fragmented.
also i used HDD health and it showed hard disk health as 100% while my old one which is NOT giving problem is at 85% health.

It is happening very less though but still it's annoying..I changed the sata cable with the new one and no sound till now after that and also transfer mode not going back to PIO..gonna wait and see if it makes the sound about.Hard to explain the sound..it's like tik....tik..like plastic hitting plastic.

you sure its not the common sound that hard disks make ? old hard drives always made lot of noise. if its really something hitting something, get it replaced before it breaks completely.

It's not the common sound.
I found a video,it's exactly the same sound but in mine it happens like once a day for 5 minutes or less:

something is definetly wrong with it. it might be one of the "arms" in the HDD that is getting stuck. its definetly faulty and you should take it to warranty.
you can also try taking it out and tapping on it, but don't use anything solid. tap on it with your hand and not too hard.
tap it from all sides and angles and shake it, but again, not too aggressively. it might unstuck the motors and "arms", might not. and there is always a risk that it gets worse, but either way its faulty.
also in time it might become useable with all the movement and heat.
