Ive been using VGA cable with my 24'' 1080p monitor and GT 240 1GB video card, it looked just fine, but today i bought HDMI and difference is incredible, i never tought that simple cable can make such difference. i had to turn brightness down from 100% to 70% and its still quite bright and its crystal clear with much better colors.
so if you hesitate if its worth changing the cable, it sure is. as about DVI, i cant tell since i dont have DVI in hand to test. seems pretty much like VGA, since ive used DVI in past and it didnt look as good as HDMI.
also games sure look more realistic with HDMI

Re: HDMI vs VGA vs DVI - cables and quality
I've always been curious about what the real differences are between the various connections. I tried to look it up a few times but figured since I was using a VGA only system I wouldn't really be able to detect differences between examples. I use a 1280x960 resolution on my 4:3 LCD with my VGA connection and I personally can't detect any blur or fuzziness in images or videos (unless the image or video itself is just low quality) so I have a hard time convincing myself its worth the cost to upgrade to a better monitor and cable.

Re: HDMI vs VGA vs DVI - cables and quality
with VGA i didnt had any blur either, but HDMI is a LOT better. its literally crystal clear, sharp and very bright. definetly worth using HDMI and not VGA, don't know what DVI would do, can't be better than HDMI anyways.
also its recommended to buy proper HDMI cable that is shielded. it means that if you use it on pc, there are obviously lot of other wires (least i have tons, 5.2 sound, USBs, lights ..etc) which may interfere with the signal. yes its the magnetic field that electronics create.
however in some places, text is bit weird, don't know whats causing it tho. like on youtube, my channel info is bit weird, while rest of the text in same format is fine. don't know wtf it is.
apart from that, HDMI also has much clearer and realistic colors.

Re: HDMI vs VGA vs DVI - cables and quality
definetly go for HDMI, before i tought the same, how much can cable make a difference, but VGA is old technology and it doesnt have capabilites that HDMI has, however DVI should have same quality as HDMI.
HDMI = High-Definition Multimedia Interface
DVI = Digital Visual Interface
VGA = Video Graphics Array
DVI is mostly for computers, while as HDMI says, multimedia. HDMI carrys a lot more than just video signal, it also has surround sound capabilites and such. it can be used with home cinema systems for example. in fact my GT 240 card is not only video, its 5.1 or 7.1 HD sound too, while DVI is nothing more than just a video cable.
as about pics .. wikipedia or google duh

Re: HDMI vs VGA vs DVI - cables and quality
connecting something using DVI into HDMI, will NOT make it HDMI. so if your PC does NOT have HDMI and monitor has, then using this adapter is useless. you get DVI quality.
Re: HDMI vs VGA vs DVI - cables and quality
Fine then I'll just get DVI and will post difference in DVI and VGA.
Re: HDMI vs VGA vs DVI - cables and quality
So i got it and in simple words: 'get HDMI if you have the hdmi port' if not,and you have only DVI and wanna switch to it,then switch to it ONLY if your monitor is full HD or of high resolution..
Mine is 1600x900 and i saw almost NO difference in VGA and DVI..as i lowered the resolution(desktop resolution and games resolution) there was actually NO difference..so you can notice difference only at high resolutions.
However,i returned to the place where i bought the cable from,he showed me difference in DVI at 1920x1200 and also difference in HDMI.
HDMI is awesome..DVI is good at high resolutions only.

Re: HDMI vs VGA vs DVI - cables and quality
well obviously HDMI is for HD, but it should show difference in 720p and 1080p. i don't know so much about hardware, its quite boring if it comes to those things, however in same time its fassinating that some things don't work.
like my friend had 2 monitors, dual-view and secondary was on "digital" mode and couldn't get 1080p resoltuion and it was connected via DVI, now its via VGA and gets 1080p. it must have been nVidia card problem, since its quite old card. still doesnt explain why it worked in VGA socket and not in DVI.
anyway i don't like my HDMI so much, text is blurred in some places. like my dark purple colored text i use in some places on my site, shows up all blurred, while using VGA it was just fine.
