Crc(cyclic redundancy check) error on dvd/cd's
Crc(cyclic redundancy check) error on dvd/cd's
I have been getting a lot of crc errors lately on different dvd's and cd's.These dvd's checked on other pc's too, they show crc on other pc's too.At first i thought its the dvd's but its seriously now getting too much.Almost 8 of 10 dvd's now showing me crc error. Some are game's dvd's,some are video files etc.I know wat crc error is but the thing i want to know is,if there is a problem in a DVD-RW and we insert a dvd in it,does the dvd gets effected?
I was having a DVD in which movies were written, some months ago i copied them to my pc.Now when i try copying that,it shows CRC.So can it be my dvd-rw? its a moser baer DVD-RW.
The thing that makes me think that its not my dvd-rw is that the dvd's show same crc error on other pc's too,but its increasing rapidly. So can a faulty dvd-rw affect dvd's inserted in it?
Solution:
To copy data from a Dvd or Cd which gives u CRC error u need "Ultraiso".
Run the program, when u click "Make cd/dvd iso" check "Skip Bad sectors" and then make iso of the DVD
Ultraiso will freeze But if u keep a check on the iso file size,u will notice that it keeps on increaseing, like 10kb/20 seconds or something which means that it is copying data.
I left my resident evil 4 (4gb) dvd over night and when i woke up i was having nice iso.I checked installing the game and it worked.

Re: Crc(cyclic reduduncy check) error on dvd/cd's
i don't think that dvd drive can actually do this, but you never know. in theory it has all the means to do so, but that would be caused by software and/or firmware.
try getting new firmware for your dvd drive (google).
i had this on one old dvd-rw drive, it didnt properly read or write, but firmware fixed it. wasnt really same issue, but similar.

I have Moser Baer DH-20A6S,current firmware version is 7M73.Cant find any other firmware. Also this dvd-rw is about 2 years old and is never cleaned. Can it be lens? should i open it up and clean it or that wont be necessary?

Re: Crc(cyclic reduduncy check) error on dvd/cd's
try any firmware you find, it might be just corrupt firmware or something and then clean it, but you have to be very careful with lens. you cant just touch it with anything. it has to be something very soft. some kind of cotton pad. but cotton might leave some bits on it. just fine a special cleaning pad (doesnt have to be for computers). something soft and something that wont leave any bits on the cleaned surface.
however i doubt its that, if you dont keep it open, then dust wont really get in there.
mine's old too. id say 5 years and it has no read/write issues, while other one started to have issues after 2 years (if someone is curious, its cuz i couldnt use my new SATA duo the lack of slots).

Re: Crc(cyclic reduduncy check) error on dvd/cd's
Firmware update did not helped.Cleaned lens, did not helped.I borrowed a shit cd which cleans lens itself, that too did not changed anything. Is there some other part in dvd-rw other than lens that might cause the problem?
Now i m beginning to think its the dvd's that i use.To give more details, dvd's the give me crc errors are not burned on only my dvd-rw but many of them are burned on other pc's.They seem to work fine first time on my pc,but from next time a crc, then it continues to give crc in every other pc too.One more confusing thing is,my friend hav a sony dvd-rw and a rewritable dvd.We often change data and stuff like movies in that very dvd.Been over a year with that and no crc in it.Very irritating.I cant think of any solution to try out.Still some help?
Offtopic-If it comes down to replacing my dvd-rw,which one u recommend. The one u hav for 5 years seems a good one.Which one is it?

Re: Crc(cyclic reduduncy check) error on dvd/cd's
are you using DVD- or DVD+ ?
from my own experience, ive always had problems with DVD+. either if its RW or R. whenever its +, im having issues. i have 2 RW+ and both are causing issues, while DVD- RW works perfectly.
so check, if it does not say on DVD, you can check with some software. just google. something that gives you info about the inserted media.
if its DVD+ you are having issues with, then just stop buying and using DVD+. there is no price difference and honostly i dont even know whats the difference in technology (cant bother googling either).
if it comes to new one, get something new. supermulti or one with lightscribe, but never LG. LG is shit. think mine's DVD LITH-ON something. its not very good in features.

I checked the dvd's i currently hav which r giving crc.Its DVD-
Its not RW though. Its a write once R-
The disc that never gave crc from over a year is sony DVD-RW.
Crc has eaten my data on disc.Anyway to recover data from Crc?

Re: Crc(cyclic reduduncy check) error on dvd/cd's
they must be bad DVDs then. or might also say wrong on dvd (might be + but saying -, best is to check with some software).
what color they are ? purple ones work best, ones that are green or blue are shit (white with bit green or blue in it).
i dont think you can recover anything from dvd once its corrupted. but if its not very bad, try making image of it. that worked for me using UltraISO. it took like 4 hours to make image, but it finally finished and image was error free.

Re: Crc(cyclic redundancy check) error on dvd/cd's
I checked on dvd's and with nero info tool and they are dvd-
they are purple ones.I never saw green and blue here :/ I hav only seen purple & silver(original dvd's) and yellow(rewritable)
I tried ultraiso 2-3 times before but it used to freeze up.I'll try it now and leave it for some hours to see if it really recovers some data.
i'll update the first post if i ever find solution to CRC errors, that i doubt i will find coz it seems there is no solution :|
Anyone outside the forum reading this plz let us know if u all know of anything we dont mention here.

silver with blue / green on it, like pearl effect. when you look against light. those are shit.
yes ultraISO does "freeze" but it does the trick, i dont have it atm installed, but there was some option about "bad sectors". try both ways, leave it on for night.

Re: Crc(cyclic redundancy check) error on dvd/cd's
Yes,ultraiso with "Skip bad-sectors" recovered my resident evil 4 corrupt data,i did on my video files,it copied them but they r not playing,so the video files r corrupt.I'll talk on another topic of repairing corrupt video files.

Re: Crc(cyclic redundancy check) error on dvd/cd's
if its not playing, it means there were too many errors. try again without bad sectors (other option) and see if it makes the image.
im not talking about copying, i said make image of dvd.

Re: Crc(cyclic redundancy check) error on dvd/cd's
I made the image. There was only 1 video file that was causing crc error.Even when the image was complete, some video files were not playing. Then i copied the files(except the one which one was causing crc) and still they were not playing. So the video files r themselves corrupt.I searched a bit, found some tools to fix it,but will try them later. Then i'll post the solution to that(if it works) or i'll just start another topic of fixing corrupt video files.
