Sober drivers being arrested for DUI -- people are too stupid to understand this concept

Post by Sethioz »

things i hear in news ... it makes my blood boil. i saw a video on youtube and also this article: https://www.carscoops.com/2024/11/tenne ... ince-2017/

what's wrong with it?
it's so typical ... they blame their own incompetence on police.
problem is not whetever someone was drunk or not, but reason why they get arrested is because they FAILED the roadside sobriety aka field sobriety test (FST).

if you FAIL roadside sobriety test for whatever reasons, then it means that you are IMPAIRED and therefore UNFIT to drive!
it makes my blood boil on how stupid people are!

reason why they get arrested, is cuz they are IMPAIRED for some other reasons, which makes them DANGEROUS to other road users!
you people would be crying a different story if one of those IMPAIRED, but sober, drivers would run over your loved ones or crash into you, so you'd end up paralyzed in hospital and this IMPAIRED driver is not found guilty cuz he/she was sober (but still impaired).
you people have 0 brain to think with, you can't see that problem is because those people are IMPAIRED and they were arrested cuz they FAILED the road side test!

JUST THINK for a moment, imagine that you're a police officer and you see a car swerving or otherwise driving dangerously / without care.
obviously your job and duty would be to pull that vehicle over and investigate, find out the reason why that driver is not able to drive normally. this reason could be anything, dumb driver, no license, drunk, high on drugs, distracted (scrubbing on phone or baby in car), tired ..etc.
so let's say you breathalize them and it comes back negative or under legal limit, but you can clearly tell that driver is impaired (not able to stand properly, eyes are going all over, not able to speak normally ..etc)

ASK YOURSELF THIS: "are you going to let that driver drive in that condition?"
if yes and this driver later runs over bunch of kids, can you live with the knowledge that YOU LET THAT DRIVER GO and deemed him/her as fit to drive? what if that driver is under influence of some other drugs that cannot be detected without blood test?
or maybe driver is just tired, but too dumb to self-analyze, so he/she is not realizing that driving when tired is still very dangerous (could be worse than drunk driving).

that's WHY police isn't gonna let someone go if they are clearly IMPAIRED and fail FST. if i was a cop and i pulled over a driver who shows clear signs of impairment (as mentioned before), then i wouldn't let him go either. i don't know about USA, but in UK and some other countries, they also have the "drug swipe" which detects cannabis and cocaine in human's system, which is grounds for arrest.
if i breathalize and drug swipe the driver and it comes back clean, yet driver is clearly impaired and fails FST, then there's no way i would let him/her drive away in that condition, i would assume that this driver is either extremely tired or under influence of some other drugs that don't show on the test. if driver insists that he/she is not tired, then i would have no other choice but to arrest him/her and order blood test to make sure there are no other drugs involved.

depending on person, i MIGHT let them drive into a safe spot and order them to take 2-3 hour break, but it's difficult, cuz most people would disregard that order and drive off as soon as they see you go away.
so maybe i would take their license and/or keys and tell them that they can get it back from station after like 3 hours.

as i said before, you'd be crying a very different story if one of those impaired (but sober) drivers would cause serious accident that involved you or your loved ones, then you'd be SCREAMING at the police "WHY DID YOU LET IMPAIRED DRIVER GO???"
that's why this story makes my blood boil, it's so pathetic! stupid people doing stupid things again.

furthermore, i know i can pass FST even when i'm drunk and/or high on weed or some other drugs. i know this for a FACT, cuz i've tried (not driving, i mean taking the FST).
i can temporarily put mind over matter and if i really focus, i can do things just fine when drunk and/or high, BUT just cuz i pass the FST, doesn't mean i'm fit to drive. when you're drunk, you generally have bigger ego and take higher risks, which is why most drunk drivers crash, they over-estimate their skills.
while you're high, it's kind of like being very tired, you're capable of doing things, but it's VERY EASY "zoning out" and losing focus, which is why i wouldn't drive when high on weed or other drugs.
i have driven in games when high and i can clearly see how easy it is to lose focus, except that in game you can just retry, in life there is no retry button, you crash and that's it. you're lucky if you only break your own car, imagine if you crash into pedestrians or other cars?

and THAT IS WHY, this story is bullshit. if someone fails FST, then you should arrest them or at least order them to take 2-3 hour break! you can't let impaired drivers back on the road.

SOLUTION is EASY: they need to simply rename DUI (driving under influence) to DWI (driving while impaired). also rename "field sobriety test" to "field impairment test" (FIT - fits perfectly, doesn't it?). that's it, problem solved!
people are such nags, they grab a hold of every word and term and then nag at it, so if you rename the test, then those morons would understand that driving while IMPAIRED is illegal. that's it, end of discussion.
