Enhance PC Game Graphics.

Post by 7Ds »

So lately I been experimentin w/ Downsamplin and some graphics enhancers. Downsamplin is the art of forcin ur monitor to run @ an even higher resolution than was intended. No u won't ruin ur monitor as long as u keep its pixel clock in range.

Nvidia:

http://www.overclock.net/t/1237470/howt ... n-the-game

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=346325

AMD\ATI:

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=366244

I was able to sneak 3840x2160 w/ my current monitor and @ that res, games take on a new level.

NFS Hot Pursuit Downsampled @ 3840x2160:

Now for Graphics Enhancers:

SweetFX, hands down, u really can get some dramatic results if u mess w/ it long enough.

http://forum.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=368880
http://www.overclock.net/t/1296721/how- ... on-methods

Here is what it has done for 2 of my games:

Armed Assault 2 - Operation Arrowhead w/ SweetFX.

TDU2 w/ SweetFX & my own attempt for Chrome Paint.

one thing i don't really understand, if my monitor has only 1920 pixels width and 1080 pixels height, how exactly can it use higher resolution ?
how would you go on splitting 1 pixel into 2 ? i mean physically, monitor has that many pixels, you can't just split the pixel into 2, graphics just look smaller, but it doesn't really do anything as far as i know.
on my screen, they look just like 1080p, nothing special.
i know there is something like physical resolution and virutal resolution, but still 1 pixel cannot be split into 2. using such HIGH resolutions, only edge i can think of, is the clear zooming. that if you zoom in, then you still have 1 pixel in 1 pixel, while with smaller resolution you would probably have 1 pixel spread over 2-3 physical pixels.

>> use the freaking attachment, i can't see half of pictures because that retarded site keeps popping up some ads and i cant close them, because i will NEVER accept cookies from those tarded sites. that's why my hosting has unlimited space and attachments enabled, so people can attach images to post and they stay there. those image hostings WILL delete your stuff after 1-2 year. look at some old posts on my forum, people talk about something, but images are all gone, its irritating ..

ahh, didn't want to clog up the forum w/ my various screens. As for the pixels, its still limited by the monitor but the result is a better image just from the source being higher than what the display supports. ie, like Anti-aliasing applied w/out the usual perf hit. The NFS screens are the only ones downsampled and there is no Anti-aliasing being used.

nah, images are fine. may aswell make use of unlimited space.

yeah it does smoothen the edges and stuff, acts like AA, however most games do not use full pixels. i mean games still spread graphics over pixels for higher FPS. specially if you zoom in or look objects closer, higher res should "fix" these things.
i still don't want to mess with my monitor.
i did get some insane resolution out of old 21' Dell CRT, like 2500x3200 something, but desktop looked so tiny lol, couldn't see shit.

bit offtopic, but you know how to force desktop resolution on XP ? i got netbook acting up and won't even show 720p, while it shows 1200x900 or some shit like that, so obviously things are not stuck behind graphics card.
or maybe its not offtopic, this isn't exactly about games.

It has been some time ago but see if u can acquire Power Strip for XP, u should be able to force w/e resolution u need. Another method would be to use the prog's listed here, http://www.overclock.net/t/1237470/howt ... n-the-game

They can create a custom display driver w/ the desired resolution. I know this works because I use to utilize then w/ my old 720p TV.

I can't seem to find power strip, is it free ?
if it's free and you have it, upload on forum.
if it's not free and you have it, dropbox it.

that link is only for nVidia, don't have nvidia in that netbook.
it has some odd gfx card. 256mb, but its some unknown thingy, can't even remember.
i just need it to work with my 42'' TV, even at 720p it would be ok. i think 1080p is too much anyways, since i wouldn't be able to see text from distance.
whatever res, i just want it to work.
right now it uses some stupid aspect ratio and it distorts the image so bad, that i can't read text at all.
netbook's default / max res is 1024x600 but it supports 720p for sure, its just stupid aspect ratio.

even if it says 720p, then physical resolution on TV, is NOT 720p, its like 780 or some shit like that. its fucking annoying.
windows says 720p, but when i use the info button on TV, it says something different.
thats why i need to FORCE the resolution.

Since it's about resolutions in game I'll ask if you know of any way to force the aspect ratio?
I mean, game resolution at 1024x768 but aspect ratio at 16:9.
some games allow this, like gta 4 but some dont and I would like to do that.

Ken what you are asking, is extremely stupid thing to do.
its exactly reverse of what i need, reason for what i need, is that i CANT read anything out of the screen if its stretched one way and reason for that, is wrong aspect ratio.
its like stretching widescreen movie onto 4:3 screen. that is stupid and should never be done, unless you enjoy watching distorted and blurry screen.

Yea, not a smooth move to force an unsupported aspect ratio because it will never be the true aspect that ur display supports so in turn, it will look weird. 4:3 to 16:9 will just appear all wrong. In short, can't stuff a square into a rectangle.

Actually I need it for a few games.Assassins creed for example.

The game if running in any resolution other than the one's with 16:9 aspect ratio will display black bars on top and bottom. And well my monitor is 16:9. The minimum supported resolution on my monitor with 16:9 aspect ratio is 1280x720.
Tt highest settings @ 1280x720 the game lags from time to time and with low resolution it gets black bars on top and bottom so it makes me not wanna play it. That's why I need something which could force the aspect ratio to 16:9 with low resolutions.

There is already a fix for that for assassins creed 1 but not for other parts of the game.So was thinking how it is done?

So it appears that u want to run some games @ an lower res than what ur monitor supports & when u do, black bars appear to compensate the missing pixels. I dunno what monitor or GPU that's in use but this should be fixable through drivers control panel or even w/ the screen's menu options. Look for something like just scan\scaling, etc.

No. My monitor supports a minimum of 640x480.
I want to run some games at 1024x768 but with a 16:9 aspect ratio. See in gta 4 settings, there is an option to select any aspect ratio at any resolution. So you can play it in 16:9 even at 800x600.

I dont mind the change in field of view but I mind the black bars I get in few games when not running in my monitor's default aspect ratio (16:9).
Example(Image from the internet, not my screenshot):
AssassinsCreedII6.jpg
These black bars disappears when I use any 16:9 resolution but those resolutions are high for my weak graphic card to handle the game at.
There may be more games which do that but I've only seen it with assassins creed and resident evil 4 until now.
So any way to change aspect ratio at will on any resolution?

As said, ur drivers or the display options can force the image to use the whole screen, no matter what the res is.

I have ati 4350. "Composite sync" option in Ati catalyst works but only with desktop resolution not with games.

you need better graphics card, you can't play modern games with that crappy card.
aspect ratio is wrong, because you're trying to stretch the resolution, if your monitor is 16:9, you should ONLY use 16:9 resolutions and NOT 4:3.
there is no option for it, because developers didn't think there is anyone who would like to fuck up their visuals by stretching the resolution.

7Ds, can you post it here, what you sent me in steam. steam doesn't save history and this is why i never use that crap for chat. i have 3 computers and 2 laptops and i only use messengers that save history permanently or forum. this is why i hate discussing things over messengers, because right now im o netbook and i want to try out the thing you mentioned, but don't have it here.

Ok, to fix the overscan\underscan (image not fitting on screen properly or image simply too big).

The tools listed do not rely on any graphics card manufacturer specifically. You just want to manually create an display driver.inf that will override the current w/ the desired "supported" resolution.
No, PowerStrip is not free but still obtainable. Really, the best option would be the tools.

An video on how to go about it:
http://www.oc-burner.de/ftp/Videos/Down ... /EDID.html

Tools:

softMCCS
http://softmccs.software.informer.com/

Phoenix EDID designer
http://www.tucows.com/preview/329441

Monitor Asset Manager (MonInfo)
http://majorgeeks.com/Monitor_Asset_Manager_d1991.html

Another method is this:

Use SoftMCCS and extract the display's EDID.
Load the EDID into MonInfo and scroll down to Native/preferred timing.. Change it to what you know your display supports (look it up).
For Standard timings supported, remove all but what u want (this will force the display to have 1 specific native res).
Create the .inf and manually install the driver.
Reboot PC for the res to take affect.

If Native/preferred timing.. is already correct, then perhaps its a setting on the TV, like 1:1 Pixel Mapping, Just Scan, etc.

excellent i got both the tools.
however where is EDID info in softMCCS ?
i forgot to mention, that i want to use my tv as extended display, not clone or extend desktop, just as secondary monitor.
so i can drag stuff to it.
im watching a movie right now and can't bother messing with it, but going to test soon. these tools look promising to get "unsupported" resolutions.

can't really see any improvement, it seem to be making things bit sharper and brigther (color + brightness).
what does it do exactly ? adjusts picture quality, like color, brightness and sharpness ?

does it have any impact on FPS ?

btw small suggestion, you should use PNG format to make screenshots, maybe thats why i can't see much difference, jpg is horrible if you want to showoff changes in imaging, it distorts picture a lot, but png keeps it as "what you see"

also does it have any impact on anti-hack systems? like do i get VAC banned from steam ..etc ?
i remember while ago VAC banned for fraps, lot of ppl got banned and said it was due fraps.

Hmm, I see that the image is sharper and the colors are more vivid, ie, not as dull. Perhaps it's my monitor but this is evident immediately on my side. On some games, it's looks like the game has been re-textured. I'll try the .png extension next time.

FPS impact is negligible & this can interfere w/ anti-cheat implementations because of the way it hooks. To be safe, probably best to refrain from using on games w/ VAC, Gameguard, etc. Kinda unwise for me to attempt explanation of what SweetFX is capable of since it's been linked in the 1st post.

yeah i do see the vividness of images, but its not huge difference + they're not much sharper. i don't say it doesn't look better, it does and in game probably even more (or on png image), but what im saying is that i don't see it being anything major.
you can probably do same by adjusting your monitor settings. i do have sharpness on my monitor and all sort of color adjustments that can make huge difference is used correctly.

anyway i might try this one day. lately i don't feel like messing with such things at all.
i would sure like to see PNG images tho. just out of curiousity. jpg is just horrible, it even distorts simple colors like WHITE. i don't know WHY it does that tho, if you save completely white image as jpg (1 tone white), then as jpg it goes into grayscale (i noticed this when working with photoshop)

dont get it, how do i change anything...
for example right now my netbook says that tv is at 1680x1050 (max that it goes using normal video settings), but when i click info button on TV, it says 1400x1050 (that is the actual resolution)..like wtf is going on. why is it doing that.
OBVIOUSLY if it can operate at that res, it CAN operate at 1280x720, but piece of shit fucks up with aspect ratio and wont allow me to put it on 720.

if i set it on 1280x720 in video settings, then actual TV resolution will be 1280x960. this is clearly an aspect ratio problem.

EDIT:
i kind a got it working. uninstalled drivers, reinstalled while tv is connected.
now it shows up aspect ratio thingy on tv, when using intel's graphics panel.
so i got it on 720p. least it seems like tv says it is 1280x720.
its still fucking CONFUSING and pissing me the fuck off. why the fuck does it say 1280x720 on tv in the first place, if its cleary NOT 720 ????
so anyway, now tv really says its 720, but quality sucks big time.
im about 2-3 meters away from tv and at 720 its bit hard to read text. i mean i can read every word, but its blurry / out of focus or something like that. i don't know wtf.
lame as intel shit.
and acer support sucks dicks big time, never gonna buy acer again. what shittarded support wants serial number ..pfff. fucking tracking people, its lame.
