How to use Mio GPS navigator while connected to pc / laptop

Post by Sethioz »

NOTE - first know that some of the Mio navigators may allow this by default. however the one i tested is "Mio Moov 200"

here's the thing, when you connect your Mio Moov 200 to a computer or laptop, then your Mio Moov will become "disabled", the data icons will show on the screen of your Mio and you can't browse or use it.
you can only access its files thru your computer/laptop, for uploading new software or maps. most ppl are not such macgyvers like me and have no other place in car for power than the cigarette lighter. so if you wanna drive and keep laptop and your GPS working at same time, you either need to come up with alternative power source for either laptop or your GPS or you can use this simple trick.

first i tried to disable it in computer, but it didnt work. so here's what you do:
turn on your laptop/computer and then put it on stand-by
now connect your Mio Moov device to computer (make sure computer/laptop is on stand-by)
now your GPS device should be connected to computer, charging the battery, but not showing the transfer icons (you can use it)
now simply take your pc/laptop out of stand-by

if you did it right, then your Mio Moov is not detected by computer/laptop as data storage or any device at all, but it will still charge its battery.

Tested with Mio Moov 200 and Mio C210 on Windows XP (on some reason Mio C210 was not detected by pc at all). Mio Moov 200 was also working this way on ubuntu linux, however this occured when the car was started and laptop lost the power and rebooted, Mio Moov was turned nearly at same time when laptop started to boot up. It means it should work fine with all OS's.
