Far Cry 2: can't reinstall "do you want to uninstall ..."

Post by Sethioz »

Well i installed FarCry2 and it messed up. so i uninstalled it and deleted all files manually, but when i ran the installer again, it said something like this: "do you want to uninstall farcry2 and all its components" i chose YES, but it kept asking me that each time i ran installer.

so i took the common and logical steps:
1. i searched for farcry, far cry, ubisoft, securom and punkbuster (pnkb) and deleted all those files manually
2. now i used CCleaner with all options checked - cleaner and registry scans
3. used registry mechanic
4. now i manually went to registry editor (start - run, type in "regedit" hit enter)
-searched for same things as in win explorer (farcry, far cry, ubisoft, securom and punkbuster (pnkb))
5. i used "windows install clean up", but farcry2 wasn't even in the list.

Nothing worked. i googled too and ppl had same problems and they either suggested same things i already tried. they either got it fixed with ccleaner or registry deleting or there was no replys on some sites.
well none of those methods worked for me. then i debugged it lil bit and found out that it wants to communicate with "installshiled", whih should have been obvious lol.
then it just popped in my head, that there's this hidden folder in "program files" called "InstallShield Installation Information"
so i went into that folder and simply drag&dropped contents on desktop, tried installer and voilaa! it worked.
other methods failed, because InstallShield Installation Information folder does not contain actual file names. its either setup.exe, or uninstall.exe and also bunch of fdsaf909034239042342 folders. so you really don't know what is what by looking on them (this is why searches failed).

So if you have same problem, either try those cleaning methods or simply drag&drop content of "InstallShield Installation Information" out of there and then try (if drag&drop doesnt work then put them into recycler).
