kay so heres my problem. ive been using msn 7.5 for the longest time, and it was working just fine, untill a couple days ago when it would give me the "encountered a problem and needs to close.." window, now every 30 seconds or so after i sign in, i get this window. I've tried re-installing it and i had to upgrade to 8.5, but the problem still exists. i recently downloaded adobe flash player to accomedate the Opera program i downloaded to replace my IE, might that have something to do with it?

I assume you are using windows xp, because what ive heard is that vista won't even allow you to use older msn.
you can try this:
-Look at step 8 and try that first.
1. uninstall msn
2. manually search for all msn files and delete them (also the ones in documents and settings, theres quite a lot, search for "messenger" and "msn")
3. now get "CCleaner" (its freeware) and run both scans there, specially the Registry scan.
- make sure you choose ALL options before running a scan. NOTE that it may delete your favorites and such. it will delete all kind of caches and history files.
4. now open registry editor (start menu - run - type in "regedit" - press enter)
5. in regedit search for any msn. there maybe a LOT, but you have to delete all of them (before deleting look at the value and make sure it belongs to msn messenger)
6. reboot your PC
7. download and install msn again
8. also download A-Patch
9. It is very useful for msn, it has options to remove ads, and other junk. (you can choose what to remove/change)
If this does not help, then post the error message you get. it should give you the error code.
yes i do think that flash can cause this. It have caused me some other problems (cant remember exactly). Also Opera is not good. Use FireFox 2.x (version 2 something, but NOT 3). Goes lil bit offtopic, but firefox has a lot of plugins which make your life way easier when browsing.
