Photoshop CS2 and CS3 license errors and fix

Post by Sethioz »

Ok this is most annoying one. I have no idea whats causing it, but with PS CS2 i got it all the time. with CS3 i got it first time. I get message

Code: Select all

"Licensing for this product has stopped working"
and then it closes. well since im not dumb i figured that its caused by my zonealarm's program control, which dont allow program to do whatever they want, by blocking them from going into net, opening other files...etc. i always ''deny'' when programs want to use other programs to do something or to get access to something ..etc. Program has to work on its own not mess up my other stuff in pc. and PS does exactly that, IF you let it run freely. It adds all kinds of junk all over your windows. So i just denyd it from doing shit and it may prevent communication with the licensing service (FLEXnet Licensing Service)

Other thing that may cause this is using 'hijackthis'. its one of my tools that get rid of adware and explorer ads and services. Things that other programs cant even detect/see. I am not sure, but maybe i removed something that photoshop needs. Whatever it was...it was NOT named PS, Photoshop, CS3 .. or anything similiar.

Ok how to fix it ?
1. Uninstall and Reinstall Photoshop - long and annoying and you need to clean registry too if you want CLEAN install.

2. Open your windows explorer and type ''Control Panel'' into address bar and hit enter.
-alt way - click on Start - Control Panel
-Find the ''Administrative Tools'' - Simply type it into address bar and hit enter if you dont want to search.
-doubleclick on ''services''
-Find ''FLEXnet Licensing Service'' and double click it.
-now theres 2 ways. Try to START service by clicking on ''start'' (if its not running)
-set startup type to manual and click ''start'' - this method should get it working for sure (at least worked for me)
-you can also set it to automatic (should start on windows reboot)

I setted it to manual and started it and it worked just fine, but i havent tried reboot. Oviously it doesnt work after reboot because its set to manual so i setted it back to automatic. Its not even important because you can always do it manually if its messes up again.[/color]

note that the service is for activation and it doesn't have to run. you can stop it from task manager after you run photoshop. I really dont know when or why PS fails with this message. once you run it and start photoshop and then stop service and close PS and run PS again..it will work fine.

as i said, its the activation service. it checks license every time you boot up ps. its kind a stupid, those things should be in register not run as a service.
