Winamp causing PC freeze / lag when changing tracks / radios

Issue:

Winamp freezes up whole computer when changing tracks or SHOUTcast stations.
Whenever there is connection error, sometimes winamp freeze up so bad, that only option is pressing the "reset" button on PC.
also whenever playing very short tracks (1-3 seconds), then whenever winamp is set to repeat that track, it freezes up and you have to press "reset"

ive had this issue for quite a while now. it keeps doing that and is extremely annoying.

Fix:

there is no actual fix for this, it seem to be happening only on newer version of winamp
clean install winamp 5.51 or below this version and it should work fine.

i installed 5.51 and it changes radio stations instantly, without producing any kind of lag at all.

Newest audio device driver fixed it.

Just FYI, thanks for sharing, I had the exact same issue.
Updating the audio driver fixed it (Realtek HD).

Win7/64, Winamp 5.61, all MP3's are on an SMB network share, hanging the whole computer but Winamp itself worst everytime it switches tracks. Didn't always do it, started a few months ago and kept getting worse and worse until the computer was almost unusable when listening to music. Finally couldn't take it anymore and started googling for help.

nice to see that you took your time to reply. now i know it was not a problem with my PC and it was actually winamp.
Right now i have 5.666 Build 3516 and works fine, however somehow it has corrupted some of the tracks, no idea how. They have LOT of static on them, i have to use VLC to re-render them / save as ... .mp3 and overwrite original and then it works again.

I guess it's not directly newer winamp, it's audio drivers + winamp conflicting.

on some reason winamp is kind of dying out, but winamp is still my number 1 choice. Best audio player ever.
