Hello all

I hope to find there solve my problem.

I spending a lot of time with friends playing on BLUR in split screen mode.
During game we found a lot annoying problems, of course its imposible to fix all but i tryied fix two most annoy stuffs.
unfortunately i so novice and I lost on first steep, i have no idea how to edit database *.bpr, i tested many program but always error or file is corrupted. I tried find help on many boards but nobody want help me because all think i want hack in online ;/

Maybe there somebody could me help, give any advice or help me moddif file if think i want hack.

I want change two things.
-In game is imposible to choose opponent car class, they always drive same as you. I want in free car class mode lock cpu on D car class
-Game dont give you the possibility change player name (default called "player 1,2,3,4"), during game is all biged mess. I want change that in language file.

I really hope that somebody now interest in my problem.

Haven't heard anything about this game for ages, well i'm not much into modding, but i think it is solvable via some hacking.

i would use "unknown search" to find the car class. just start a race with certain class and search for unknown, then quit the session and start it again with different class and do unknown. ..etc

there's also a link to my video tutorial, which should be best option.

as about the player names, not sure. it could be done via hacking too, you can use "string" in cheat engine or search memory for a word using tsearch and then change them, then do a pointer scan or write a simple script, so you can apply all that at beginning of game, but problem would be that names would still be fixed, whatever you set is what you would get.

Also attach the .bpr files here, if you are sure this is where the data is kept in, i don't remember anything about that game and don't have it either, i'll take a quick look.
as about modding, you should check xentax forum, they do lot of game modding (google for xentax). If those files are decryptable, then most likely there is a script for Luigi's QuickBMS that can do the job.
only problem with xentax, is that most of them are just trolls, if you ask a question they go offtopic and ask like "omg why do you even need to change the name? just remember who is who ..etc", you need lot of patience there.

I can't use those idiotic sites, getting tons of malware alerts and everything gets blocked, why didnt you just attach them to your post?
or you saying whole file is like 500mb? im sure there are extract tools on xentax

I searched on xentax forum, readed desk to desk all topic about Blur but i dont find that what interesting me.
In xentax tools i find only *.bin unpacker (JADE Game Engine .bin file pack-tool v1.0) but this tool is incompatible with Blur files.

some of them look like half encrypted, maybe its not encryption at all, but i don't know much about such stuff.
I asked Luigi (author of QuickBMS), maybe he knows something, but he don't deal with that sort of stuff much lately. i'll post the update if i get reply from him.

Thanks magician :) tool works great.

But i see name system works quite different as i think.

In game its look like that:
Player 1 - its same as computer name
Player 2
Player 3
Player 4
And in during game commands like : Player 3 wreck your car

But in lang file looks: Player %d wreck your car
So numbers of players must be loaded from bin files like this opponent car class.

On this step u must something invent, those *.bin files was highly protected. I saw some bin uncoders but each game publisher using different bin encryption system so this bin uncoder is not a universal tool, and i dont saw tools like that to game blur. But i saw many people modiff those *.bin Blur files but they dont want help ;/

i could probably do it, but it's not exactly my field, you need "encryption" keys and such. sometimes it is not possible to get them from file and you would need the game itself to see what keys game is using, then using those keys you can create a similar script for QuickBMS.

as about player names, i think its bit trickier.
Player %d - this means that Player is always used and %d is a variable taken from some other place. So if you rename "Player" to something else, then everyone would become "something else".
You need to find the variable (%d) and modify the code, instead of %d you need to specify a list of player names, then also blank out the "Player" string, to like - or >. Then it should say:
> Name_here wrecked car

Also if players are 1, 2, 3...etc, it might be in same file. In programming, you don't need to even write out numbers, there is a command to show numbers in sequence, but i'm not that much into programming, so not sure what that command would be.
either way, it seems bit more complex.

1st step is to find the place where numbers come from 1,2,3,4 ..etc and write bit of custom code, instead of variable %n you would have names.

Its how looks merits, loc- lang files / bin.- database files

And now I stuck,
loc files was in 90% editable, but to correctly edit is needed loc files extractor.
I searched half of the Google and i cant find working download link.
Smb wrote ext to blur but ofcourse download link dont work

lmfao ... payed registrations? wow, i did not expect that from xentax, but i guess they're getting greedy, that people like me, Luigi ..etc are getting rich from what we do and they provide all that for free, so they made it that only donators can register. that's low. my forum will always stay free, however you may see more adverts in future, cuz its true, nothing's free.

anyway, my friend had old account and i asked him to ask about that download link, but it looks like a dead topic there.
can't blame people, i thought Blur is dead game, didn't think that game has any success really.

Yah, true... Blur was released in the same time as split second, and unfortunately that second was quite better than blur.
Bizarre Creations Company fast collapsed, game was no longer developed. Many fans tried give that game a second life by making addons but Blur was too highly protected and hard in modable.
I appreciate this game for that what dont have Split Second : 4 split screen mode. In this mode with friends game was brilliant, something like the legendary ToonCar for youth times. And thats why I'm trying to improve that dead game.

developers are in wrong understanding, modding keeps games alive, not other way around, but they try to prevent modding because they think it kills the game, i haven't seen a single game die because of mods.

TDU2 is another example, it was almost dead, but when unofficial patch was released (it adds new vehicles and clothes and some bug fixes), game started again, lot of activity online again.

There's also very, very old game called Aliens vs Predator 2, devs shut down master servers, but people made mods and made a custom launcher to connect to their own "master" server to list servers and i think that game is still alive, even today.

yeah, devs really need to stop encrypting everything, they should keep modding section on their official sites where everyone can send their mods, so it can be downloaded officially and anyone with that mod, can play against eachother online. not just blur, but all developers, games would stay alive much longer.
If they want to make profits, they could simply make it that if you want to send a mod to their website, you have to pay like 1-5usd, it's not much and it would eliminate all those stupid kids trying to send some useless and dumb mods. it would keep community professional and games alive.

anyway see on xentax is they reply, but it looked like a dead topic to be honest. I hate it when people use some filesharings, because those share sites ALWAYS delete files after some time, even if its legit, after 1-2 years files are usually gone, ive stumbled upon those myself, always makes me angry.
This is why i always ask people to upload files straight to my site, as long as my site is online, so will be the files + i always make backups, in case i change hosting, files would still be available.

True, today devs dont have time to make games modable, everything must be done quickly to maximize profits.

Here you go. maybe Blur isn't as dead as i thought it was.

edit: i think you're wrong about devs not making games moddable, i think they actually spend more time on trying to prevent modding, because they think it would kill the game and they don't like people tampering with their stuff. at least most of them. Look at GMOD for example, so heavily moddable and so many still play it.

"player 1" name is same as computer name. In Profile.loc have symbol %s
gracz 2 In Profile.loc have symbol %d

So what gona now? How u want change it in *.bin ?

post content of Profile.loc and any other files that have any information about names, i need to see the full picture, but %d and %s are just programming variables.
Post it all in english, i think content of files are english anyway.
you can attach the decrypted files too if they're not too big.

I'm not that good in programming, so not sure how to modify it to show player names. if im correct, %d means that it just uses a digit, so if "Player 1" is taken, it generates "Player 2" ..etc.

You have to ask this question from a programmer, who knows how to modify this:

Instead of sequential digits, it would use a list of player names, where Player is always like Player 1 or whatever name you choose (maybe chooses a profile name instead) and AI is randomly taken from the list.
Shouldn't be that hard.
