Wireless on Windows XP : xp vs ubuntu (linux)

Post by Sethioz »

recently i installed ubuntu on my secondary HDD.
what came as a surprise is that in xp the signal of the wireless is weaker and more unstable than in linux.
i do not know whats causing it, but in xp i get disconnects often and sometimes it won't even connect if signal is weak, in linux it connects just fine and i can browse net perfectly.
note that i was testing with same WAP (wireless access point) and i did not move my antenna at all and i also did not put any interfering objects near antenna, also it was not just 1 test, i noticed that it is always the same.

my wireless card's chipset is rtl8185
software i use to connect is WiFi Hopper
as mentioned in "Windows XP (pro)- bug in wireless network connection manager" topic, the "windows zero connection manager" has serious issues if there are WAPs that use same name (Ssid), so im forced to use some 3rd party connection manager.
however it does not matter, because xp's default manager still has disconnects even when it does connect and signal is still weak.

on linux i never had that problem, it connected right away and did not disconnect. also web pages opened way faster.

another fuck-up from microsoft i guess
