Anti-virus detection - false alarms

Post by Sethioz »

this is mainly about the thing that MOST anti-virus programs detects programs that are totally SAFE to use.
AVs only detect them because they are harmful to other ppl, not to your own pc.
For example i bring :
WPE pro (winsock packet editor) - its been detected as sniffer. basically it is sniffer, sniffs out thigns from net, but there is no remote control on it, so it CANT be harmful to yourself. you can only sniff out things you need. Like steal videos/music from sites..etc (by getting exact links...)

Cain&Abel - its a password cracker and also been detected as sniffer (or something else sometimes, depends on AV)
same story with this ... it is not harmful to user of this program.

One freezer program (we dont mention names here) - its also detected because it is very harmful for other people.

THC Hydra - dont remember, but it was surely detected by nod32. It is just a remote password bruteforce tool, this is y its detected by several AVs.

Theres tons of those programs. those are just few examples i had in mind atm.
AV should detect only programs that are harmful to your own system, not to others.
