PC / Gaming Setup - what do you prefer and why

by Sethioz
Right, i made this mainly to see what hardware people like to use and why.
if you have some specific setup, explain why you chose what you chose and if you regret any decisions, if so, why? and what would be your replacement ..etc

As many know, i have a whole "command center", but here i will only cover my main PC setup / gaming setup that i use daily.

UPDATE: see my other posts, i'm going to upgrade most of the stuff.

Case - Antec DF-85
Why i chose this case, is mainly because of the looks, but also because it has 7 fans fitted by default and front 3 fans have dust filters, which really do come in handy.
Then later i modified the case and cut a hole on side and mounted 22x22cm fan there + dust filter to cool my GPUs

CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 Black Edition Quad Core 3.6ghz AM3 socket
This was at a bad time, so i went with the cheapest quad core option that was above 3ghz. it's about 1 year old. I do regret it, i should have gone with something better. I want to upgrade, but then i would have this cpu laying around, not like you can really sell it ... at best i would get 40% of original price. ehh ..
right now i can get 8-core 4.5ghz for same money, so yeah.
but it works fine, GTA IV is getting stuck around 50-60fps tho, because cpu is not powerful enough.

RAM - Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600mhz 8gb (4+4)
Seemed like a good choice at a time + cheap too. Corsair is always good, so i wasn't really worrying about quality. at the time this was one of the best RAM you could get. 8gb because you don't really need more than 8, i have used 6gb when i was heavily using everything (2 games, photoshop, everest, winamp, skype, 3 browsers ..etc)

Motherboard - AsRock M3A770DE
I don't know what i was thinking? I mean motherboard is the least worries, but it does not have USB 3.0, supports only 1600mhz ram and 122w cpu and is outdated really. I guess i went for cheap version. I should have got a lot better one, however it does have SLI option, well no full SLI support, but by using "HyperSLI" tool you can bypass that issue. It has 4usb ports at back + 2 eSata/USB hybrids, so 6 USBs total at back, quite ok, but i could use 10 or more.
Need to update.

PSU - OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W ATX
I had 800w BlackStorm and it fried .. i was told not to buy PSUs from unknown companys, but i didn't want to listen, so i learned the lesson the hard way, it fried after 4 months.
Then i went for OCZ. I read a lot about it and lot of gamers have tested it in extreme environment, not just under load, but also in hot environment and they said its solid as rock + its pro version. As soon as i got it, i could tell by the crazy weight that its good PSU. if PSU weights a lot, it means its performance PSU (why?? huh?? > because weight means that it has proper transformer in it + proper heatsink). It also has naitive SLI support.

CPU Cooler - Asus Silent Knight II
I used original for a while, but it got too noisy, i built a custom wind tunnel out of paper and mounted it around the stock cooler to take the fresh air from front fan, it worked perfectly, better than most aftermarket coolers, but it looked very stupid with that paper around it (pics are in my gallery). So i decided to take a look around on ebay and amazon and found that awesome looking Silent Knight II cpu cooler by Asus, as soon as i saw it, i knew that's the one i want. it looks really awesome and ofcourse Asus always has good performance. I think it's discontinued now, it was out there for very short time, my friend wanted one like month later and couldn't find it anymore.

SSD - Samsung 250gb
Was not planning on SSD, but my primary 250gb hdd developed a bad sector and i did not want to take any risks, so i got 250gb SSD. Samsung was pretty much only choice with 250gb (i needed 250 so i can clone my old hdd onto it) and it had good reviews.

HDD external - 3tb Seagate USB3.0
This is for fraps recordings mainly, i simply went for cheapest 3tb hdd i found. Seagate is quite good so i wasn't so worried about it. It has amazing 200mb/s read/write speed, must be some internal RAID maybe? it's really very fast for HDD.

HDDs - 160gb, 300gb, 320gb
Those i didn't really buy on purpose, 1 i got from friend, another one i took out of broken / old SKY box (300gb) and another i took out of some old pc, but they come in handy. I have set them to spin down after some time and i use them for different things, 1 of them is for archives, so i barely use it, another one is for games (its almost full) and then last one is for music + some general media (pics, sounds ..etc).
I am seriously considering swapping all 3 for 250gb SSDs to win in power + noise levels, i don't really want 1-3tb internal HDD, but it's an option. for now i don't plan on doing it, since i can use my external 3tb hdd if necessary (its dedicated to main PC, i got 1tb for media, but not on main PC).

PCI-E Mini Slot - Belkin 3.0 USB card
I needed USB 3.0 for external HDD, because using USB 2.0 fraps was not able to record over 15fps, speed of usb2 was just not enough to write to hdd. I wanted to get one of those really cheap ones, thinking that ... cmon is a damn USB card, but after reading reviews where 10 or more said that it fried and took hdd with it ... i decided to do research and found that awesome Belking USB 3.0 card that had very good reviews, it even uses extra MOLEX power cable to power it, so power is not coming via pci-e mini.

PCI Slot - 2 port USB2.0 card
did not buy it, but thinking about replacing it with 5 port USB2.0 card. I simply need more USB ports. right now i have only 1 port left, rest are taken and i have 12 USB ports total (2 port usb card, 2 port usb3 card, 6 ports on back and 2 useable in front)

USB 10 port hub
Good thing to have if you use lot of memory sticks and don't want to keep swapping stuff, however it will NOT give you power of 10 ports, it can be used for memory sticks and not for devices like mouse or keyboard, you end up braking it and maybe even devices. It connects to my keyboard port and sits on my desk for easy access.

Graphic Cards - 2gb GTX550Ti SLI
Originally i wanted a graphics card that is affordable and with ok performance, so i bought GTX550Ti 2gb edition, but recently i wanted more power and i also wanted to try out SLI (as i had never tried it before), so i wanted another GTX550Ti + its cheaper than to buy new card that gives power of 2x GTX550Ti. These cards are discontinued so i found factory refurbished for quite cheap. Factory refurbished is good as new anyway, it even had protective film on it and no marks of wearing, so its good.
This SLI setup can run any modern game just fine, maybe not on max graphics, but 1080p is no problem. Main things i have to disable in new games (like Crysis 3, Tomb Raider ..etc) is AA and Shadows, well i turn shadows on minimum and it will run ok.
I'm seriously considering GTX690, but as far as i can run all new games above 40fps at 1080p and not on lowest settings, im good. im not a framerate whore, so i don't mind if i don't get 100+ fps out of every game. 50+ fps very smooth already and good enough + my monitor is only 60hz anyways.

Keyboard - Cyborg V7
When i saw it, i wanted it ! It's one of the most expensive keyboards, but it sure is worth it. I do have thought in my head to replace it with Cyborg Strike 7 (5 times more expensive) which is seriously awesome keyboard, with LCD screen and detachable modules (numpad can be put even on left side ..etc), but for now it does the trick, i don't really feel like changing keyboard so often, because im used to this one and i can type a lot faster on this keyboard than on others + 12 cyborg keys are very good.

Mouse - Cyborg RAT 7
Yet another awesomeness by Cyborg. This mouse is absolute best, it has 5600dpi lasers (normal gaming mouse has like 500dpi lol) and yes lasers, not laser, it has 2 lasers for precision. 3 quick swap profiles, 2 scroll wheels (1 is fully programmable) and 2 more fully programmable buttons + precision aim button, that slows down mouse movement from 0 - 100% (you can choose, its best for sniping). But what makes this mouse really superior, is adjustable shape! It fits into anybody's hand, because you can adjust the shape of it. It also came with different attachments for maximum comfort. It is one of the most expensive mice out there, but it's worth every bit of it. Oh yeah, it has 30g removeable weights too (5x6g), but it's already heavy as it is, with its aluminium frame.

Controller - Razer Onza Tournament Edition 360
I used to use default PS3 controller with ds3tool, but it was too annoying to run the tool each time i wanted to play, so i got Razer Onza TE instead. it's plug n play and it works on xbox360 + PC. It's not default 360 controller, it has 2 extra, remappable buttons and analogs are strenght adjustable (you can adjust the physical sensitivity of analogs). Also it has cool backlights under buttons and 5m protected USB cable, really cool controller, giving you edge over other players :)

Monitor 1 - Acer S275HL 27'' IPS
Thought that its time to upgrade, so i went for 27'' IPS. IPS technology is definetly a lot better than LCD, this is one of the best monitors you can get, there were few others choices, but Acer stood out and i wanted it ! It has unique design, 2 HDMI inputs and 1 VGA. If you don't know what IPS is .. it is better than LCD, it does not have the angle problem that LCD suffers from, you can view IPS from every angle without losing the colors and colors are a lot more brighter and realistic on it.
also 27'' is quite good, any bigger would distory the image if its still 1080p, so 27 is quite good, maybe 29 would be bareable, but any bigger would be unpractical.

Monitor 2 - Samsung B2430
about 3-4 years old by now, i just wanted 24'' monitor back then and i bought the first cheap one i saw, it turned out to be good. Samsung does have good quality anyway. However it have developed a dead pixel, it is not really visible, but sometimes in white areas it can be seen and can annoy you, but nothing bad, still going strong. Only problem it has, is the internal PSU, it heats up monitor a lot more, my primary Acer has external PSU and monitor is always at room temp, won't heat up at all.

Monitor 3 - LG TV 42''
Not dedicated to my pc, but im using HDMI splitter to clone my main monitor onto TV, so i can sit on sofa and still see my PC, TV is connected to other PCs too. it's very good when using controller and/or racing wheel to play games.

Wireless - Alfa 1000mW AWUS036NH USB adapter
Originally bought this for cracking wifi networks, but ended up using it as main adapter, i got another Alfa 2000mW AWUS036NHR which has even more power, but i don't use it as primary right now, it's used on other PCs for certain reasons. Both of these alfa adapters are amazing, they have unmatched power and performance. I strongly recommend Alfa networks if you need wifi adapter.

Bluetooth USB
This i got recently, in order to connect Wii remote controller to PC and test some stuff with it. It's a simple Bluetooth USB device, nothing special.

OCZ NIA - Neural Impulse Actuator USB
Well this i bought purely out of curiousity and because i like such stuff. NIA reads your brainwaves and allows you to control pc like that, concept is good, but unfortunetly it doesn't work as well as i hoped, i don't regret buying it, but i might have passed it if i would have known how "broken" the technology is. Problem is that wire between NIA box and headband (sensor that reads brainwaves) is not isolated and have no protection, even smallest movement of wire can set off the sensors and make them go nutz, so ....sit still and don't move a muscle. Still awesome little toy, but expensive.

Microphone - Karaoke machine's headband mic
I wanted a headband microphone (not headset) so i can talk in games without others hearing sound from my speakers, so i searched on ebay and found that one. it's very cheap, but quality is better than those expensive mics. i strongly recommend it. Also it has manual on/off switch on side and 3m wire. Connects to mic jack.

Webcam - simple usb webcam by unknown company
One of the cheapest you can get, i only got it because it goes with my PC theme (red/black). It's VGA 640x480 and that's it.
i don't really use webcam so i don't think i replace it, i might get 1080 camcorder instead that can be connected to pc.

Drive - DVD RW by unknown company
I very rarely use DVDs, so i don't really care about it, it's some old crappy DVD RW, still works, but nothing special. Not planning on upgrading either, might even remove it completely to save space and power and replace with external USB drive, which is a lot more practical nowdays.

Sound System - 5.2 surround sound
This is custom setup, i have 2 creative speakers left/right, then center and rear left/right are TEAC and subwoofer is also TEAC and control subwoofer is SilverCrest, so yeah i have 2 subwoofers and 5 speakers, giving me 3D / surround audio and super good bass (its 300w woofer or so)

Logitech Steering Wheel + Pedals USB
Not sure about the model, but it's quite old Logitech steering wheel + pedals, nothing special. thinking about replacing them, as it doesn't even have real force feedback and it has developed a "dead zone" in middle of right turn, it's very small, but noticeable never the less.

Keyboard 2 - Logitech K400
This is not dedicated to my main pc, but i use it as remote control when i put my main view onto TV. It's wireless keyboard + mousepad and has awesome feature, 2 left mouse clicks, where one of them is button on left side, so you can hold one thumb on mousepad and other thumb to press left click (on left side of keyboard), makes drag n drop really easy.

Headset / headphones - Logitech G930
This is the newest in the PC Setup. I wanted it mainly so i can sit behind TV and play games with controller and won't have sound issues (that my speakers are setup for main monitor, but my tv is on left side from me when i sit behind PC), but since i went for headset, i wanted a proper 3D audio headset, G930 seemed like a good choice

USB Extension / Repeater
5 meter USB repeater that goes from back of my PC to my table for ease of access. I can connect stuff there when i make reviews or connect racing wheel + pedals there, either way it's cool thing to have USB port 4-5 meters away from your pc. I got repeater (not just extensions cable) to prevent any kind of "signal" loss. USB range is 5 meters and then you need repeater, so just to make sure.

Visual - LED strip with remote control
Mounted a LED strip inside pc and connected it to MOLEX power cable. Remote reciver is behind nice chrome/mirror plastic, where it can receive the signal sent by remote controller but cannot be seen thanks to that awesome mirror/chrome plastic i put there to cover it.

I think that's about it lol, it sure has tons of gadgets that "normal" people would never even think of, specially my 2-way gaming setup, i can either sit behind pc with keyboard and mouse or i can sit on sofa with controller/racing wheel, K400 keyboard/mousepad and G930 headset. I bet i forgot something .. oh well this is too long list and this is the stuff that is directly related to my main PC setup.

Anyway my PC setup can be seen on my youtube channel and reviews of some stuff is on our other youtube channel

Anyway list your PC setup here. any comments / suggestions are welcome too.

1.Mouse

Roccat+, very high dpi, great built, good enough.

2.) Keyboard

G7100+, mechanical keyboard, membrane shit keyboards just suck. (If u dont believe try urself) Im using mx brown switches.

3.) Monitor

iiyama g2773hs....120hz, 27' not ips though, but for work its just fine, and games really profit from the 120hz and 1ms too.

PC build:

i7 2600
8gb ddr3 ram
gtx 570
1,5TB HDD 7200rpm

nothing fancy, it was basically a pre built but for a very decent price (Hardly 900€ for the case,pu and everything else). Im not great at hardware so i dont like building it myself yet. *Ye hate me :D * I could have gotten the whole thing not pre built for about 100€ less the time i bought it, but hell, at least im not a mac-fag.

4.) Notebok

Acer 5742g....just for school, lets not discuss it.

5.) Things i wanna get:

Dell ultrasharp 23'
Second notebook
SSD instead of the HDD im using now

Priority has the notebook though, then the ips second screen for work. SSD if i get some additional cash for some unexplainable reason.

Don't even ask my specs for now but this is what I prefer:
CPU
i5-3570 (K version if planning to overclock)
The amd FX which have 8 cores is not even THAT good for gaming.
I dont think is there is even a game right now which uses more than 6 cores(battlefield 3) so the extra cores will not really help much in gaming. Most games use 2-4 cores only. I don't know if there is any "trick" to make the games use up all 8 cores.
So the Amd FX with 8 cores @ 4.8ghz should perform equal to around i5 @ 3.3 ghz in gaming. So I would choose intel i5 for gaming. But for multitask amd FX would win.
i5-3570 is really good relating to price. It's should be a little less good than i7-2600 which Legu have and is about half the price of it.

GPU
Gtx 660 2gb
40+fps is enough for me even if I have to turn of AA or even if have to run games at 1600x900.
SLI for multi-moitor.

Keyboard
Logitech g510.
Cyborg V7 is cool and fancy. There is not much difference in cyborg V7 and Logitech g510 in terms of quality I think. Everyone have preference and I prefer something less fancy
81xqFlPvbOL._AA1500_.jpg
Ram
Corsair Vengeance 8gb DDR3, no contest this Ram is awesome. I've only heard good things about it from everyone who owns it.

Monitor
3 x 24" for gaming and single 27" IPS mounted above the 3 on wall for single monitor gaming and other stuff too or when not using the 3 monitors for gaming.

Seasonic
I want to get a Seasonic sii-520 for pc with i5-3470 and gtx 660 2gb.
Seasonic makes great quality psu's. Seasonic and Corsair probably makes the best one's. Seasonic is the OEM of Corsair,I read it somewhere but not sure. Seasonic X750 with 62A @ +12V rail, that's what's sweet.

Fuck, thats nice. Can u post a pick with the set up? Im just curious.

Also when already talking about such stuff, here the best battlestation i have seen so far.

@Legu

that's quite a nice setup, got any pics?
That monitor is surprise to me actually, but again i don't keep eye on hardware really.
1ms 120hz and 27'' is quite nice, however i recommend IPS. its better for eyes, better quality, colors ..etc
and most of all does not distort colors when looking under angle.
gtx570 is also better than my GTX550 SLI setup, confirmed. so yeah ive been thinking about upgrade.
i don't know if gtx690 or gtx680 in SLI, depends on price i guess. i think 680 in sli is cheaper and better.

why would you get 23'' monitor?
again, don't go for LCD, see if you can get IPS instead, but Dell is good company. my old CRT monitors were Dell. really nice monitors
and i put some insane resolution on one of them, like 2500x3200 or something and i did it with 128mb graphics card, or maybe it was 512.

@Ken
If you get RAM, i recommend going higher speeds. mine is only 1600mhz, i think fastest ones out there are 1888 and 2400mhz (G SKill ripjaws), go for those.
If you put 27'' over main 3 monitors, trust me, you won't see shit on it really, unless you tilt it down a lot, so its closer, like over the table.
it's cheaper and better to do 27 + 24x2 or just 27 x3.
G510 is quite good, but i prefer cyborg, it has better look to it.

Fuck, thats nice. Can u post a pick with the set up? Im just curious.
I don't have it I'm just starting to build new pc and planning for 3x24" with a 27" mounted on wall. It will be almost like the pic you posted! :D

@Sethioz
I heard of G skill ripjaws and saw them, their reviews are as good as Vengeance. I'll see at the time of buying ram which one has more price / performance value.
I would say go for gtx 680 sli. The performance is only about 2-4% better so it doesnt matter but the price is cheap for SLI than a single gtx 690. Some games might bug the use of SLI but still gtx 680 alone will run them quite good. So SLI will be good option coz even if one card fails, you will have the other for a while and it will be quite a heart attack to not get replacement or run into problem with a gtx690.

yeah that Mounting 27" is worrying me but I can tilt it a little and my chair is adjustable so it can go a little higher. I doubt I will use it for gaming much unless I'm playing with gamepad coz keyboard / table cant be raised up but even so I can easily reach both mouse and keyboard even when at higher level. I will probably just use the 27" wall mounted monitor more for movies / animes / tv shows.

I have more than enough space above but limited on sides, it will be difficult to fit even 24"x3 unless I put the case down or on side further away + printer on a lower level.
mentor.jpg
If I sit straight my Head reaches the level of almost the end of the assassins creed drawing. So I guess mounting 27" on wall should not be much of a problem.

Pic that Legu posted seem to have 27'' in middle, 24'' on sides and 42'' above and also that 42 seem to be running PS3, i have everything connected to tv (main pc, media pc, ps3 and vga cable for netbook in case i need it).

btw GTX660 can't run more than 2 monitors at a time, at least i think max is 2, im not sure about 690, but i think it can run 4 at same time, using all 3 for gaming as a span view is too much for even 690, or maybe not. i have seen people using 690 with 3 monitors (1080p).

also i heard that 690 has SLI issues (it is naitively SLI already, it's like 2 cards in 1, but i heard it acts like SLI and some games use only 1 gpu core instead of 2).
so it might not be best idea to get 690, but i have seen gamers use 690 and they don't complain over compatibility issues.
either way, im not gonna upgrade right now .. or maybe i will?
sometimes i just go crazy and WANT something, like G930 headset, i didn't think i gonna get headset at all, i never liked them really, but one day i just wanted headset.
Mainly so i can sit on sofa and play games on TV (controller wire is long enough to reach sofa), but sound would be problem, since my tv is not on same side as pc, so wireless headset was most logical step.
i could also put tv above PC monitors, but i like to sit on sofa when watching movies, so i don't wanna redo whole layout of room + i don't like this place, i wanna move, so there's not much point of mounting stuff or building something that is hard to undo ..etc.
and also often i like to leave movie playing and sit behind pc, like watching/listening movie and doing some pc stuff at same time, like when rendering videos its good to watch tv while it renders ..etc, so having them all connected to same system is bad idea.
shared tv is best way to go and at this point i have to say that this LG tv is really good, it has so many inputs (3 HDMI, DVI, VGA, SCART, RGB, sVideo, USB and few others)

...have anyone thought about 3x 42'' TV as monitors ? lol ..

Actually i have to point out, that big isn't always good, at least not for gaming. its awesome, but not practical. i think that 32'' is pretty much the limit for gaming monitor, any bigger and you won't see whole screen at once .. and if you sit back enough to see whole screen, you won't see things clear enough (won't notice stuff at distance).

that said, there's another option, that Sony head thing, i always forget what's it called. it's the full entertainment thing that goes around your head, like goggles or something and also its headphones ofcourse, not sure if its surround sound tho.
i think it might be very good for gaming.

Yeah I know, I will need 2 gtx 600 for 3 monitors :(
But for you I would highly recommend gtx 680 SLI instead of a single gtx 690

btw cant stop myself:
> Buys an awesome $100 headphone for online gaming.
> To hear who slept with your mom in high quality.
lol

I'm getting Cooler Master HAF 912 combat for my pc, mainly because its priced ok and got good reviews. I doubt I will need a full tower cabinet worth $200.
Getting this cooler master for around $100

hat's quite a nice setup, got any pics?
Sure, see attachments. About my room: well...nothing fancy really, i basically study mostly, some movies sometimes, and a game or two if im bored.

Also im tryin to get the dell ultrasharp 23' since i would use it in portrait mode (it supports pivot), also it has amazing color quality (ips), and i get it for around 200€ which is an acceptable price.

Also i think both the gtx680 and gtx690 are a rip off just like the gtx titan. If u wanna spare some cash, think about a 3x 7970 which should be about the same price as a gtx690, or wait a bit for the 8000 series (gtx700 series for nvidia should be there soon too).

about graphics card i don't know, not sure how many monitors 680 supports, can't bother checking either. once i decide to upgrade, i'll check.
i can use 4 monitors, but then i can't use SLI. in SLI i can use only 2 monitors at a time, without SLI i can use 4.
SLI makes 2 cards into one, using power of 2 cards, but feature of 1 card, keep that in mind people. so if card supports 2 monitors at a time, then using 2 of them in SLI, will not give you 4 monitor support, you can still only use 2 at a time, i used to use 3 (with my GTX550Ti + GT 240 setup, so 550 ran main monitor and 240 ran other 2, so games got best out of 550).
i'm quite sure 680 is 3 monitors and 690 is 4.

as about Radeon, they're not much for gaming, they have lot of RAW power, but games don't like them. at least that's what i heard + they take insane amounts of power.
7990 takes 580w out of your wall socket, that's way too much, while 690 is 300 or something like that. for cracking purposes i do want Radeon, but don't know.

@Legu PC Setup, looks quite simple, but it's one of the cleanest PC setups ive seen, is that ITX case?

as about my PC setup, im not really into super powered PC, i'm more into building stuff, like having tons of gadgets over single super pc so i can do a lot instead of having super gaming pc. for example there is nothing i can't connect, i have equipment for almost everything. my media PC has TV card (its quite old tech nowdays, but still). TV card is where you can connect the antenna and then watch tv in pc, also it has sVideo input that can be connected to adapter that has RGB and SCART, so i can connect old VCR or old camcorders to it or connect PS2 to it for recording purposes.
That's also why i got that bluetooth, i still haven't done it, but probably will deal with it this weekend and connect Wii mote to pc, then i'll get a trackbar (same that Wii has) and turn that wii mote into a headband controller, so i look at monitor and mouse moves :)
I'll make some pics and videos when it's done.

I found a Corsair TX650 for a good price from a local shop. But it costed more than what I had saved for PSU so I will need to look for a cheaper case :o
Under $80, what do you prefer and why?
I want it to have cable management since that psu is non-modular.

@Ken .. you bought the PSU? very bad idea to buy non-modular, they're usually crap, but if you say Corsair, i guess that's enough, still non modular are crappy.
case under 80 .. there are tons of choices.
go for ebay, you can easily get full tower case under 80, probably not new, but they're in good condition.

@Legu
for me that's too basic, i like unique style, that's why i mod everything, so noone else has same :)

The modular version of TX is made by CWT while non-modular by Seasonic.
Seasonic is OEM of Corsair, so most of the awesome PSU's from Corsair are thanks to Seasonic. That's why couldn't go for the modular one.
I've never heard even a single negative review about Seasonic so I prefer them. :)

i never heard of Seasonic at all, meaning it can't be good company.
Corsair uses lot of parts from different companys, but point is ... Corsair knows how to put them all together, that's the thing. i have seen Toshiba chipsets in Corsair products (like SSD), if you buy Toshiba itself, it will most likely fail, but Corsair just puts all that together the way it does not fail.

Just like whole PC, if you don't know how to put it all together, like connecting 2 GPUs onto same 12v rail (it can get confusing with non modular PSUs for example), then sooner or later you will burn your PSU.
see my point? if you put chipsets together in wrong way, it will burn or not having enough heatsinks or overclock something ...etc ..etc.
Corsair just puts all that together in good way so it won't break and they test, they make sure its durable, while other companys might use exactly same parts, but still have crap that breaks down.

just like with computers, you can give 2 identical computers to 2 different people, one idiot and one expert ... get the point? that idiot will break it in no time and says "omg what a piece of junk", but expert keeps it nice and clean and it keeps on going.

I've been planning on updating my main PC.
To start with, i've been keeping my eye on some AsRock motherboards as they seem to have best designs.
so far 2 of them are what i'm looking for
AsRock 990FX Extreme9
AsRock Fatal1ty 990 Professional

Both have quite ok features and slots, but Fatal1ty has only 6 SATAs .. while 990FX seem to be having 10.
I think first things i will upgrade are motherboard and Graphics card, probably 680 SLI or 690. i actually want 680 SLI over 690, but will see.
680 SLI should have better performance, but will decide when i have motherboard in place.

I like my case, so no upgrades there. been thinking about Little Devil, but its mostly for water cooling and its too expensive, i might as well build my own PC case out of scratch, something new to do, basically all i need is drill, special tool to shape and cut metal sheets and tool for rivets. If it's one time only, i can easily do it, making mass pc cases is harder if its 100% hand made, but will see.
If i do decide to build my own case, it will be EPIC, the best there is.
