Facebook connecting to odd places

i notice things that normal people never even know exist. one of them being facebook's odd connections.
one of these places being "akamaihd.net"
reason why i notice these things, is because my web browsers are set for maximum security and performance. i don't allow any 3rd party crap to be accessed.
recently when i went on facebook, half of it is just empty. i can't see half of the website.
i checked the block list and i saw akamaihd.net there.
when i allow it, i can see the facebook again.
however if you go to that domain, it appears to be invalid. i can't bother doing any research on this really, but it's just so weird, wtf is it.

same with youtube actually, it goes to some yimling or something.

I remember the yt one you saying is used by youtube to store thumbnails for videos.

yt = youtube
img = image (obviously :P)

Code: Select all

http://i.ytimg.com/vi/VIDEO_ID/0.jpg
placing the video id in there would give that video's thumbnail.

No idea about the facebook one though. o.o

youtube needs/needed more than just 1 place.
what i DO NOT understand, why the fuck do they have different domains? it is extremely retarded.
