So there I was..

Post by eGRes5 »

...A little spacey after smokin' a J when I thought of a great idea.

I remember iD's Jon Carmack going on about how PC's are superior to latest generation consoles,
even when all the abstraction layers such as the OS and other usermode processes are taken into account.

Just how much could be gained by removing all of those layers, I don't have any numbers but I think I heard him
mention 15-30%.

So what if.. Get this... A universal abstraction layer was made just for gaming for x86-64 PC/MAC's.

Basically a gaming OS if you will, similar to what consoles already do, that you could boot into. Think about the impact
this could have on piracy, hacking, performance, and troubleshooting.

The kernel could be BSD/nix variant which already has a huge hardware support and GPU card vendors already release drivers for multiple OS's.

Any thoughts?
