Things that are dangerous / bad for your eyes

Post by Sethioz »

just a small note of mine i want to share with low IQ ppl out there.

most older ppl say "omg dont sit behind computer / tv you ruin your eyes" ..while wearing glasses themselves. i wonder why ? since back in the days there were no computer / tv mania.

i tell you straight out, this is complete bullshit. it is only a conspiracy to get children away from computers and TVs. older ppl just think that its bad for kids.

lets get down to the points:

1. tv / pc can be bad for your eyes and it can be neutral too, depends. let me explain:
a: CRT monitors / TVs are most dangerous to your eyes, since they have this electronic field around them and they flicker too much.
b: LCD and Plasma monitors / TVs are quite harmless, however you should never be far from them or use very small font that you cant properly see.
c: lighting is most important ! if you watch tv / monitor in dark (no matter if CRT, LCD or plasma), then you WILL ruin your eyes very fast, might be in 1-2 years or less when constantly using tv / pc. let me explain about lighting. always have a light on, but NOT a bright light. you need enough light so when you turn your tv / monitor off, you wont notice any light change in room, but NOT much light so that it blinds the monitor / tv. you need to balance the light, so it wont reflect back from monitor / tv and that monitor wont light your room, but light does. < confusing ? well hope you got the point.

2. reading - yes, plain and simple. reading books or ebooks will fuck your eyes up pretty bad. same thing with reading, if you read in bad lighting or overlighted place, you will ruin your eyes fast and also reading small text is bad.

3. driving (mostly at night) - should be quite harmless, but driving at night can be quite dangerous. specially when you are long distant driver at night, driving on dark highways with oncoming cars will mess your eyes up in years. its the light change in fact that is bad for your eyes.

4. sunlight (UV) - in my opinion and research its most dangerous, while 99.99% of humans have no idea about it. let me explain, if you go to beach for like 4-5 hours without any protection cream against sun, you will get seriously burned and have blisters later on. now imagine this happening inside of your eyes. since there is no protection against UV for your eyes. most ppl are awake at day and in the sunlight all the time while having no protection against sunlight.
even at winter time, UV is still there, just because sun doesnt really burn you, UV is still there and messes your eyes up.

* here's more simple example for all the idiots out there who think im wrong. what happens if you are exposed to radioactive materials ? like radiation from nuclear bomb ? like in Hiroshima, ive heard stories that radioactive effects are still there, now how many years its been since nuclear bomb was dropped there ? see, this is how dangerous radioactivity is. now read about UV > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultraviolet
ofc UV on earth aint as bad as its on the actual sun, but its still bad.
this is also reason why a lot of cars come with UV protective windshield and sometimes all windows are UV protective.
best is to wear UV protective sunglasses and drive a car that has certified UV protective windshield + windows.

in general there are lot of things that are bad for your eyes, but here i mentioned things that constantly fuck with your eyes, like every day.
smaller things are like shampoo or soap in eye, liquids (that can blind instantly), dust and other small things or hitting your eye against something ..etc
if you think you know something else that can constantly damage your eyes, list it up.

Resolution matters because it resizes the size of the fonts on your screen. You can always adjust the font even at higher resolutions to make it comfortable for your eyes to read. However, many toolbars don't get resized.
To solve the text readability problem, you can change the dots-per-inch (DPI).

Go to Display Properties dialog (right-click on an empty space on the desktop and select properties),
Settings tab,
Advanced,
Another dialog should pop up with a General tab. Here you can adjust DPI setting.
Higher the DPI = larger font.

resolution doesn't really matter, its the frequance (hz - hertz) that matters. however higher resolution and bigger font is better, at least i find it better to read. the more you have to "stress" your eyes to read, the worse it is for your eyes. if you feel comfortable to read the text and your eyes won't get tired, then its all good.

for example on old CRT monitors i was clearly able to see and feel the difference between 50hz and 75hz (frames per second). on LCD and LED it wont make much difference, it isnt really bad for your eyes.

only thing that is very bad for your eyes, is if you look at the monitor in dark room, as i explained before.

the best position for light is overhead. If it's behind you it will cause glare on the screen.
second best position is on right/left or before you.

Ken's kind a right, however i suggest light that is not directly anywhere. for example my "computer" light what i use, is the one on the wall. it has solid cover and light can only be seen from top, so it shows up from wall and on ceiling. enought to light up the room, but still keeping it dark enought so i can clrearly see the monitor and it wont flare off of monitor.

it's very important to have just enought light so monitor wont light your room, too much and you have to "stress" your eyes to see the monitor and if there's not enought light, then this light from monitor damages your eyes.

best way to find the light balance, is to look away from monitor, like on wall near you ..etc and then turn off the monitor. if you can't see any light change, its good. obviously if you look at your chair or keyboard that is very close to monitor you still see the change in lightning.

you just have to feel it, if your eyes get tired then you know something is wrong with lightning. for example my eyes start to hurt in less than 30 min if i look at monitor / tv ..etc in dark. and same if i have too much light, if i put on ceiling light on max (i have the dimmer switch).

Allright thx for the replies, i placed a small lamp near to my notebook around 1m, it has a solid light , enough strong too see almost everything in the room clearly , but it doesnt blind me. Also i think its really better, i have the feeling that my eyes "last" longer than usually(total dark room).
